The U Arena in Paris, now recognized as one of Europe’s leading multi-purpose venues, was designed to host sporting events, concerts, and international entertainment. Located in the La Défense district, in the municipality of Nanterre, the facility is an outstanding example of architectural and engineering excellence, with a capacity of up to 40,000 spectators and more than 1.4 million visitors each year.

Originally conceived as the home stadium of the Racing 92 rugby club and as a major venue for cultural and corporate events, the arena was later selected to host the gymnastics competitions during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

A Roof for One of Europe's Most Innovative Stadiums

LMV World contributed to one of the most technically demanding elements of the entire project: the stadium’s fixed roof, a defining feature that makes the U Arena one of the few fully covered sports venues in Europe.

To support the roof, massive mega-trusses with spans exceeding 120 metres were fabricated using S460NL high-strength structural steel, selected for its outstanding mechanical and structural performance. The entire roof structure required approximately 5,800 tonnes of steel, making it one of the most significant structural steel projects ever completed by LMV.

The work was completed within the client’s scheduled timeframe thanks to an intensive fabrication and installation programme carried out by the LMV team, whose continuous commitment ensured that all project milestones were successfully achieved.

The venue was officially inaugurated on 19 October 2017 with the first of three sold-out concerts by The Rolling Stones, marking the opening of one of Europe’s most innovative and versatile event venues.

LMV’s participation in the construction of the U Arena further demonstrates the company’s ability to successfully deliver large-scale international projects of exceptional technical complexity, contributing to the creation of iconic infrastructures that become landmarks in the global sports and cultural landscape.
