The Lakhta Tower project, part of the renowned Lakhta Center mixed-use complex in Saint Petersburg, is one of the most innovative and prestigious architectural achievements in the world.
LMV contributed to the construction of the roof connecting two sections of the multifunctional building by delivering the complex steel support structure for the ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) cushions, one of the most advanced materials used in contemporary architecture.
An Iconic Landmark Combining Architecture and Engineering
The Lakhta Center roof was designed to connect two buildings within the mixed-use complex through a highly complex arched lattice structure. The structure features a trapezoidal cross-section, a curved geometry with variable inclination, and numerous connection points for the insulation systems and ETFE membranes, requiring an exceptionally high level of precision throughout every stage of the project.
LMV manufactured and installed approximately 771 tonnes of structural steel covering a total surface area of more than 20,000 m², creating a structure designed to meet demanding structural, aesthetic, and functional requirements. The galvanized steel components were subsequently painted to exceptionally high-quality standards, achieving a finish comparable to that required in the automotive industry.
The main structure includes a truss spanning approximately 24 metres, weighing 28 tonnes, and installed at a final height of around 50 metres, making handling and installation operations particularly challenging.
