The project involved the construction of a new exhaust gas extraction system for the coke plant at the former ILVA steelworks in Taranto, which is currently undergoing a major technological and environmental modernization program.
The project represents one of the most significant infrastructure developments aimed at improving plant efficiency and emission management across the steel production site.
Structural Steelwork for a Highly Complex Industrial Infrastructure
The new extraction system was designed to collect and channel gases generated by the coke plant, contributing to the modernization of the facility and improving the overall performance of the steelworks.
LMV fabricated approximately 823 tonnes of structural steelwork, covering a total area of more than 16,400 sqm, manufacturing the project’s main load-bearing steel structures.
Among the most significant components were 28 Cor-Ten steel beams ranging in length from 12 to 22 metres, featuring box sections measuring 3 metres in height and 1.8 metres in width, as well as 7 lattice columns with heights ranging from 9 to 11 metres. The project was completed with technical walkways, service stairways, and numerous ancillary steel components essential for the operation of the plant.
