Project Features
- Project name: Cable Deviators for the Roof Support System of Volgograd Stadium (Russia)
- Location: Russian Federation
- Construction start: 2016
- LMV activities: Detailed engineering design and fabrication of the upper and lower cable deviators and radial clamps for the stadium roof support system.
Volgograd Stadium, built to host matches during the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018, is one of the country’s major sports infrastructures. For this prestigious project, LMV contributed by designing and manufacturing highly specialised structural components for the stadium’s roof support system, providing its expertise in the engineering and fabrication of high-precision structural steel components.
High-Precision Components for a Highly Complex Roof Structure
LMV designed and manufactured the cable deviators and radial clamps, key components for the proper operation of the stadium roof structure. These elements connect and maintain the tension of the roof’s supporting steel cables, with diameters ranging from 70 to 110 mm, ensuring the correct transfer of loads to the main structure.
The fabrication process required the use of specialised steel grades suitable for operation under extremely harsh climatic conditions, fully compliant with the standards required by Russian regulations for structures exposed to low temperatures.
To ensure maximum long-term durability, the cable contact surfaces were protected through arc-sprayed pure zinc metallisation, while the external surfaces were treated with a three-coat protective system, providing excellent resistance to weathering and corrosion.
