The Bologna People Mover is the rapid transit infrastructure connecting Guglielmo Marconi Airport with Bologna Central Station, improving urban mobility and making travel between two of the city’s main transport hubs faster and more efficient. The project is one of the most significant infrastructure developments completed in Bologna in recent years, combining technological innovation, sustainability and architectural quality.
Designed by Iosa Ghini Associati for the architectural concept and developed by STS S.p.A. for the detailed engineering design, the People Mover is a modern infrastructure conceived to integrate harmoniously into the urban environment while providing a fast, safe and continuous transport service.
A Strategic Infrastructure for Urban Mobility
The project required the fabrication and installation of approximately 6,000 tonnes of structural steel, used to create the main load-bearing structures of the transport system. The works also included the installation of approximately 35,000 sqm of expanded metal cladding, 3,400 sqm of sandwich panels, and over 1,600 sqm of guardrails, essential elements from both an architectural perspective and for ensuring the safety and durability of the infrastructure.
LMV also managed the direct transportation of the steel structures to the construction site, coordinating logistics and installation activities to ensure compliance with the project schedule and the seamless integration of the different construction phases.
