The new Vado Ligure viaduct is a strategic infrastructure project designed to improve road access to the port area and enhance connections between the road network and the region’s logistics infrastructure.
Located south of the town of Vado Ligure, the viaduct is a part of a new road alignment built to overpass the port railway link, improving traffic flow and increasing road safety.
A Strategic Infrastructure for Port Mobility
The new viaduct is located south of Vado Ligure as part of a road diversion designed to cross over the port railway connection. The route runs parallel to the road network upstream of the “Molo 8.44” shopping centre and connects to Via Trieste, near the exit of the Carrara Tunnel. The structure, built in structural steel, has a total length of approximately 105 metres, divided into six spans of 17.5 metres each.
From a vertical alignment perspective, the design was driven by the need to provide a minimum clearance of 5.20 metres above the railway tracks. In plan view, the viaduct follows a series of carefully designed curves and reverse curves to avoid interference with the commercial building located on the seaward side. To minimise the structural depth while maintaining an optimal road gradient, a composite steel-concrete deck was selected, consisting of five steel girders with transverse stiffening members and a 250 mm reinforced concrete composite slab.
